As an educator, my primary focus is to critically engage and research on the spatial design of educational spaces, specifically on the functionality and conventions of educational spaces for young children. I examine both concrete and abstract aspects of generic interior-spatial design and co-designed atmospheres in this context: physical flow and circumstantial constraints or opportunities; positive and negative spaces, ambient emotional cues, linguistics of objects and interior elements: textures, colours, light and sound (acoustics, ‘noise’). What emerges from this approach is an holistic understanding of a living-learning environment and spatial atmospheres - characterized by the interdependence of a physical space, people, materials, psychological impact and overall (sensorial) experience.
